chinese new year is a great time for gathering, the whole bonding with relatives and friends, the whole joyous moods and festivities going around, it's also chance to meet up with relatives you rarely see, or rather once in a year. so it's just a happy and merry season, its the english equivilant of christmas in a sense i would say.
