Price : Approx $50 per pax for the food mentioned below
Ambience/Service Rating : 9/10
Went there with my mum & auntie for dinner. It's been my second time there, and i loved the entire decor of the whole place. Cosy lightings, wooden architecture with a "zen" feeling in it. We got sofas seat tucked at the corner of the restaurant, the restaurant overlooks orchard road as well. So if you are lucky enough to get a window seat, you would be able to see the bustling nightlife and roads of orchard roads. Attentive & polite service staffs, overall a very nice dining experience.
Overall Food Rating : 8.5/10
Salmon sashimi wrapped in beancurd skin
Loved this particular dish, as the name suggests. The salmon sashimi is actually wrapped in beancurd skin. I especially like the beancurd skin, i think it's an innovative way to eat this salmon sashimi, usually it goes with "rice", or rather sushi. For it to be wrapped in beancurd skin is something new to me, and i think it's very nice & interesting. The salmon is very fresh, it's thick yet tender, and it goes very well with the beancurd skin as well as the sauce. The sauce tasted a mixture of sweet & salty, so overall it goes well with the salmon. There are salmon roes on the side of the plate as well, did not really try that, not really a fan of caviars & roes. However it does look pretty cute to me, little minature ball-looking roes.
Mixed Skewers On Teppanyaki Grill
Mixture of different types of skewers on the teppanyaki grill, there is pork belly, minced pork balls, chicken meat, mushroom, prawn. Average i would say for this mixed skewers, i loved the pork belly and balls, but the prawns and chicken, i would say, it's abit too simple. The prawns tasted like the average prawns you get from bbq-ing, and the chicken looks more like deep fried, than on the teppanyaki grill. One thing that's interesting, the skewers are all poke inside this potato, at first i thought that it was inedible, later than i realised that the potato was actually baked, and tasted quite nice still!
Crabmeat & Mushroom Hotpot
If you are looking for something healthy and light, this would be the right choice. Crabmeat & Mushroom Hotpot, the soup based dish consists of a mixture of fresh crabmeat ( as in those real crab meats ), button mushrooms, shittake mushrooms and greens. The soup base is light but sweet, and is very soothing, it gives you the feeling of wanting more, crabmeat is fresh, tender and has the "Q" feeling when you bite into it. Loved the mushrooms as well, usually not a mushroom fan, however the mushroom being in the pot, absorbed the flavour of the soup, and it tastes very sweet and nice!
Marinated Pork Belly with Wasabi
Mum introduced this dish to me, she keep telling me that it's damm nice. On first bite, it tasted as some normal pork belly, " kong bak " . However, on the next few biting, the taste of the pork gets more & more flavorful with each bite, and even as i'm writing this now, i still have the taste of the pork belly in my mouth. There's also wasabi inside it, so it's like eating "kong bak" with wasabi, nice though!
Kimchi & Chicken Hotpot
The mushroom hotpot was abit on the lighter side of the soup base, however this kimchi and chicken hotpot bends over to the heavier side of the soup base. It's thick and flavourful, you can actually taste that it's being boiled with cabbage or rather kimchi, because there's the taste of the " pek chai ", there's toufu, mushroom and chicken ( duh! ) inside the pot, tried the chicken, not really that great, normal. Was expecting something more, since the soup was so flavourful, but the toufu was really smooth and silky.
Seafood Pancake
Last dish for the day, and we couldn't finish it as we were all too full! the pancake is pan-fried till golden brown, and inside it's filled with squids, prawns, octopus, and the pancake is being smeared with japanese seaweed, and mayonese over it. Not too bad, just that some parts of the pancake was burnt, but it still tasted great, perhaps think that i was too full, so did not really enjoyed it that much, but it's very filling.
Overall Bill : SGD$ 148.90,, which comes up to be about $50 per pax. But it's very filling, and i'm still full now!
I'm Off!
