Had an early reunion dinner this year at Pearl River Palace as brother is leaving for Denmark next week.
Trained home after that.
Ordered their Chinese New Year Set Menu, and the first dish was the "Fa Cai Yu Sheng", so the condiments were being poured into the plate by the waiter, and after that we used this super long pair of chopsticks to "lou hei", the "yu sheng" was average on taste, nothing too particularly good about it, however the keropok they used were pretty nice and crsip though.
Next up was "Double-Boiled Superior Shark's Fin Soup with Korean Ginseng Sea Conch & Chicken". I'm not really a fan of shark's fin soup, it has this very strong "fishy" smell, and i don't really like it alot. However this soup was pretty good. It's very clear and they were generous in terms of the ingredients used. You can see whole pieces of shark's fin being used, and the whole soup tasted very clear and sweet, it was good.
Next was "Sauteed Scallops and Prawns with X.O Chilli Sauce served in Golden Nest". It was the best dish for the night, in my opinion. The prawns were huge and succulent, and the scallops were very big and fresh as well. And it goes very well with the asparagus and chilli sauce, which gives the whole dish a little punch to it. Overall i loved it alot.
Next we had this "Steamed Marble Goby Fish with Fragrant Mushroom and Minced Meat". Also a very good dish for the night, the fish was very fresh, and you could taste the sweetness of the meat and together with the mushroom and minced meat, a very good combination.
By now we were pretty full, and we still had this "Fragrant Glutinous Rice with Preserved Meat, Dice Taro and Chicken Floss served in Lotus Leaf". The smell of the rice was very fragrant even before tasting, and the glutinous rice wasn't very sticky, and the amount is just right. I loved the preserved meat, or commonly known as "lup cheong". It's been so long since i ate it, and yesterday just rekindled my love for it.
Finally we had "Chilled Mango Sago with Pomemlo Black Pearl" for dessert. Mango sago is a pretty common dessert dish in all kinds of restaurants, but what's special here is that there's pomelo in it, and it goes pretty well, and it's smooth to the taste.
Overall, we had a very filling meal, but i would say that the taste is just alright, could be better given the price of the meal, about $350, i think you would be able to get a better deal elsewhere, although certain dishes were really very nice.
Trained home after that.
