Reactions

The H1N1 flu pandemic that is spreading everywhere around the world is indeed worrying, and more so since it's spreading locally in Republic Polytechnic.

At first, when the management decided to quarrantined the 4500 year 1s, i thought it was a reasonable thing to do, as those infected intially were all from year 1s, although i had the thought that wouldn't the virus spread around. But at this stage, about a week later, the cases in RP has jumped from 2 initially to a whopping 54 now, which makes up about 10% of the total cases here in Singapore.

Isn't that a credible evidence for school to be stopped temporary, is there a need for cases to keep increasing till we reach the tipping point before the entire school is close. It's as though we wait for something to happen, before we take action, rather than precautions. Yes, i understand that there's more to it than merely closing the school. But as it seems, our school seems to be a breeding ground for H1N1, and the cases increase day after day. Who knows when we will get infected, and if we really are, is the school going to be liable for the medical charges that we incur, or if we are infected and the virus spreads to our family, is the school going to be liable as well.

Most people have the common perception that students will often find excuses to "stop school". Yes, i don't deny that, i'm sure most of us as students will one way or another have thought of this, but when it comes to a health situation like we are talking about it now, where viral infections is spreading rapidly, it really gets to the jitters of one.
